Blog #10: CS373 Silvana Borgo
What did you do this past week? This past week I started reviewing for my Advanced Computer Architecture class because I have the second midterm tomorrow. My group for this class also met to assign what each person was supposed to work on for this submission, we assigned tasks. For my Virtualization class, I’m still looking for an open-source project I can contribute to, which has been hard because of the level of difficulty of most of the ones I’ve looked at.
Other than that, I really enjoyed this week because of the Halloween celebrations. Also, this Thursday I went to a Mexican bakery and got some pan de muerto which is this pastry we eat in Mexico for the Day of the Dead.
What’s in your way? I don’t think there’s much in my way this upcoming week. Everything should be alright as long as I focus and dedicate the right amount of time to each thing I have to do.
What will you do next week? Next week I’ll be working more intensely on the project for this class. I’ve been in charge of adding the media to each instance page and implementing the search on the frontend, along with another girl. So, once we’re done with these requirements, we’re going to be dedicating some time to improving the look of the website and refining the code.
About non-academic activities, I’m excited because I’m finally going to a football game. I haven’t been to one in these past two years, because I don’t understand the game and my friends stopped going freshman year, but I finally met some exchange students who have been going, so I’ll be going with them. I’ve heard it’s a whole experience, so I have high expectations.
What was your experience of SQL? I enjoy using SQL because of how the logic works on the tables and the ease of the syntax. I became familiar with SQL this summer and I liked learning it. I just have fun writing the statements and seeing the resulting table. I have enjoyed working on these SQL in-class exercises more than the Python ones. I feel like it has to do with the logic, but maybe another factor is that I’m new to Python syntax.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week? I read about how Tile, Bluetooth tags that can be attached to objects and be tracked with this, can now be used along with Google Assistant or Alexa. The article I read was basically an explanation of how to configure your assistant to track the Tile tag. You can ask the assistant to either make the Tile tag ring or to simply indicate its location. I thought it was interesting how different technologies interact with each other to provide a more complete and easy-to-use service for the user.
