Ah memories. I used IDL when I worked at Space Telescope in the early 90s. I recall someone wrote a maximum entropy image cleaning program in about four lines of IDL. It was a simple iteration around some FFT functionality built into the language. We used that to process the early fuzzy HST images into something we could do science with.
