Awful dentist — avoid Smiley Dental
I am disgusted at the treatment i received here on 9th September 2014. I had been in extreme pain for 3–4 days before calling up for an emergency appointment. I was given one for 2:30 — a few hours after I called. when I arrived the receptionist handed me a form to fill in and I was seen fairly quickly.
I am a very nervous patient and have regrettably avoided going to the dentist at all costs for the past few years. The dentist had a look in my mouth for about 30 seconds before telling me that my tooth was dyeing and I would need it out — they informed me that it would cost around £200 for each (2 need removing) which I assume is the cost for private patients not NHS! ……after getting home I looked online and for tooth extraction its band 2 for the NHS and should cost me £49 not over 400 surely! so I told them there was no way I could afford to get that done and I was in so much pain with it. They then told me that they could refer me to get it done at a hospital which would take around 4 months for an appointment, being the only option I had I agreed to do this and he filled out a referral form for me.
Being I left the dentist I asked them if there was anything they could give me for the pain I was in as I had already tried mixtures of paracetamol and ibuprofen — paramol — codeine (etc) and nothing had an effect on the pain at all. They advised me that it would be cheaper just to buy ibuprofen over the counter and that they would work — even though I had already told them for 3 days I had been taking as much as allowed and I was still in agony. They finally prescribed me the lowest dose available of dihydrocodeine — which of course didn’t work for me either!
After another 2 days I got another emergency appointment elsewhere and it wasn’t until I was seen that I realised how bad this dentist really is. The amazing guy who treated me 2 days later told me that my tooth was very badly infected and that I would need antibiotics if I had any hope of easing the pain — he also gave me 3 options for treatment there and then — although I wasn’t prepared and was too scared to have the tooth out, instead he gave me a temporary filling — painkillers — antibiotics and lots of advice and guidance — since then my pain has gone and ive started my course of antibiotics. Finally had a decent nights sleep & food!
I was very reluctant to get a second opinion because I just assumed that if Brighton White couldn’t do anything for me for the pain then surely no one else would be able to either. I am so glad I paid another £18 elsewhere because no one should have to suffer with that kind of pain for potentially 4 months. If anyone has an emergency appointment here and leaves in pain don’t hesitate to go elsewhere and get a second opinion — they didn’t even notice how bad my tooth was infected — or simply ignored it because I was an NHS patient and they would rather not waste time giving me a temporary filling or even to numb my tooth to relive my pain — terrible dentist

I rather get shot then ever have my teeth fixed at Smiley Dental. Nobody speaks English and they don’t even say Hi when you go see the dentists. I will NEVER go there again I rather have a homeless person work on my teeth.
