The #@!!!Kardashianisation of the world…#Instagram or it didn’t happen!

You know you’ve done it…

Facebook — “Susie Nobody is at — The Gym”

Instagram — #YOLO #Drinking #Weekend

Twitter — #AustraliaHeatWave is trending right now

It would seem that in this day and age, one could take a shit on a street, take a photo of it, put a filter on it and upload it to Instagram with the #YOLO and gain some kind of fame or recognition for it be it good or bad. A struggling B-grade magazine would grab a hold of it and post it on their social media outlets to there teen followers which would then lead to it going “viral” as they say and then life would go on. This makes me sad.

I was out on the weekend with some friends and we are having a few drinks and some dinner and I made the comment, “Has anyone checked us in on Facebook? If no one does then does that mean tonight did not happen because we didn’t tell the internet?”. We all had a laugh but I then thought oh wow, there would be people who actually would believe that there is no life if its not on the internet and who do we have to blame? Well, not necessarily the Kardashians but I think you get my drift.

Reality TV has done all kinds of things to the world, we’ve seen some amazing people on screen and then some fame grabbers as well, the application process really can’t weed all of the crap out but they do try…don’t they? It would seem these days that for every physical action you could do in REAL life, as in, as a human, on the planet that there is a direct action you can put onto your social media account or upload a video of your life to share in real time. I just don’t know if this is a good thing or not. I feel as if people are not actually living life for the experience but rather for the number of comments and likes that they are receiving on their posts. The buck does not stop there either, there are tools and app’s that people can download which give statistics about their likes and comments and shares in some cases which paint a picture of peoples popularity amongst their ‘peers’ online and how they are rating.

Did I just say rating? I’m judging myself, life isn’t about getting scores and getting ratings but it would appear that this has been created? So, if you don’t tell the Internet about your day, did it really happen? How can we as your ‘friends’ measure the awesomeness of your life if you don’t upload every single aspect of it? I’ve written before about how a friend of mine suggested that we as humans and as a society are perhaps “de-volving” as opposed to “evolving” and how at the time, I was quite shocked by such a statement but here now, writing this piece I am back at this crossroad. Is the fact that we as humans are removing more and more everyday the human aspect and experience to life, progression or steps light years backwards? I am aware that this piece is not reflective of everyone on the planet, but it would seem that this type of life is being marketed to us daily via many channels as we are so accessible these days, we are so logged in we don’t know how to feel logged out.

I feel like I am one of those people now saying that I just want everyone to be happy and I want us to dance in a field of green pasture singing the hills are alive, I do not want this. I want people to go within and really think about why they do the things they do and be clear about this. There is no right or wrong and everything is perception so as long as people are clear on their intentions, then all is right with the world. If your intention is to get 100 likes on a photo of you half nude on instagram with the #YOLO, then that’s fantastic, as long as you have a plan. The internet probably won’t be at your funeral so if I were you I’d maybe have a think about that.

Until next time…
