The Scarlet Briefing 5/6

The Scarlet Briefing

Every week, the team at Scarlet shares what we consider the most compelling news in A.I., digital assistants and technology that affects and helps the lives of humans. Here are this week’s picks.

  • Soon your whole arm could be a trackpad. Carnegie Mellon researchers are developing SkinTrack, which uses electrodes to turn the surface of skin into a device extension. (Popular Science)
  • Robots shaped like cockroaches work together to climb stairs, and it’s oddly adorable to watch. (Popular Science)
  • Moore’s Law, which predicts that computing power will double in regular intervals, has long been a guiding principle of the tech industry. But is Moore’s Law reaching its end? (New York Times)
  • A research vessel that the online public voted to name “Boaty McBoatface” will officially be called the RRS Sir David Attenborough. But Boaty McBoatface will live on, in the form of a drone sub aboard the ship. (CNET)
  • Enter The Void, a full-body virtual reality simulation that provides an experience that is “nothing less than magic.” (Polygon)
  • The strange saga of Bitcoin’s invention took another turn this week, after Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright said he would prove that he created the digital currency, then backed away from his claim. (Gizmodo)
  • SpaceX successfully landed another Falcon 9 rocket on a barge in the middle of the ocean — this time in the dark. (WIRED)

Here at Scarlet, we believe technology should be better at helping us orchestrate our days. So we’re building it.

One of the many ways we are achieving this is through our Ingredients of the Day campaign. Check it out and share yours.
