CS371p Spring 2022: Scarlett Shires, Week 13

What did you do this past week?
This past week, I mostly did work for other classes and cleaned up around my apartment. I also had registration for the fall semester. I always make several plans just in case my first or second choice classes fill up, but this time all my research and planning was a bit of a waste, because I got to register really early and got all my first choices. Now I just have to wait for my next preferred CS Upper Division class to fill up so I can get on the waiting list for it to be my third class.
What’s in your way?
I don’t think there is a whole lot in my way. Ironically, the less I have to do, the harder it is because I can justify putting it off and end up procrastinating far longer than I should, but I think I can end the semester strong.
What will you do next week?
Next week, I will start work on the final project. I have a pretty good idea of what I need to do, I just need to steel my resolve and find a partner to work with.
What did you think of Paper 13. What Happens to Us Does Not Happen to Most of You?
I really wasn’t expecting to read about this topic. I’m fairly sure it hasn’t been discussed in any of my CS classes and I am glad that the professor chose to include it. I didn’t have much to add to the conversation, but I was shocked with how recent the article was, so clearly its something that still needs to be discussed.
What was your experience of r-value references, move constructor, and move assignment? (this question will vary, week to week)
For the most part, it was pretty straightforward. As per usual, the exercises really make sure to solidify your understanding of the material and are pretty big incentives to pay attention in class.
What made you happy this week?
This weekend, my boyfriend came to visit. We haven’t seen each other since spring break, so I was really happy to spend some time with him. The last few weeks I have been really absorbed in my work, so getting some time off to go outside and enjoy life did me a lot of good.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip of the week is to look at some of the resources on the class website. Some of them might be fun to look over during the summer.
