I’m Drunk, I Love You (2017)

Throughout my life, I’ve always been a yearner. I yearn for things beyond my grasp, dream of aspirations just out of reach, and long for affections I know won’t be returned. Some even say I’m crazy — delusional, and beyond mad. Yet, these traits of mine have always defined me — a person filled with boundless love.

I truly believe that my way of loving is as unique as anyone else’s, yet I’ve often faced criticism for “loving too much.” This mismatch in emotional investment often makes me doubt myself and leaves me feeling like I’m not enough in the relationship. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions where the depth of my feelings brings both happiness and heartache. It shows how challenging it can be to love deeply in a world that often prefers holding back emotions.

“Maybe you expect so much from someone because that’s how much you’re willing to do for them.”

I firmly believe that true love involves wholehearted investment in the relationship and a genuine effort to fulfill each other’s needs. While some may downplay the importance of effort, there inevitably comes a point where it becomes exhausting to mold oneself into their vision of a “low maintenance” partner, especially when their actions consistently fail to meet the genuine needs of the relationship.

Longing deeply for a profound love in a world where such intense emotions can be misunderstood or overlooked may seem irrational or even unrealistic. Yet, as time goes on, the weariness from unfulfilled expectations can lead someone to grieve within the relationship and find the strength to move forward.

Mastering the art of longing and letting go is more than just acknowledging misunderstandings. It is about learning how to recognize when to persevere, commit, and nurture a relationship that brings mutual fulfillment; and equally crucial, when to gracefully acknowledge the signs and let go, allowing each person the chance to pursue their own path to happiness and personal growth.

This art demands courage, empathy, and a deep understanding of oneself and others — a delicate balance of longing during difficult times and recognizing when it’s time to let go, ensuring that both individuals can ultimately find peace and fulfillment in their lives.
