The up and up

3 ways dreamers sabotage themselves

I dream big.

If this is your first response to the question: “What do you do well?” then stick around. While your strengths of innovation and creativity have inspired some awesome projects and sexy brainstorming sessions, you may be getting in the way of your own success.

  1. I've fallen and I can’t get up — sometimes dreamers have the tendency to give up before they even start. Just because you don’t see immediate results, doesn't mean the project was a bad idea. What did you do when your pencil point broke in middle school? You got up, sharpened it, and went back to acing that pop-quiz. Your setbacks are merely humbling moments.
  2. I love my haters — it’s good to get feedback. It’s even better to learn from it. It’s not wise at all to let it shut your whole operation down. Some folks just won’t understand what it is — or why it is — you would ever want to (enter your grand idea here). Sure, rain doesn't follow every ark that’s built, but some ideas make it. When you’re hot they’ll wish they wanted you.
  3. Plan, plan, plan, collapse — dreamers love the idea of an idea. Second to this infatuation is the love of planning. While a pile of post it note reminders and to do list make for a comfy security blanket, putting the plan into action is a step in the right direction. One way to get going is to work on crossing a few items off the list right away.
