Sometimes it starts with a phrase or something I wrote, then the pictures follow. Like a play being written and the actor saying these words is cast later.

I get to decide on the cast, the setting (if I allow myself a setting)…i usually work pretty minimal so there isn’t a lot of detail, which works for me right now.

Sometimes the cartoon comes first and I need to put words into a character’s mouth.

Either way the process happens I usually draw it all out in pencil and the ink a new clean version on my trusty old light box.

I have a nice batch of cartoons to submit to my friends at The Coffeelicious and will be doing that today.
