A note on women-only tech events

Poppie, this is good. It makes sense. However, my two cents are this:

A) The safe place to talk about ‘the revolution’ is required and helps some people get into the scene too as the CS scene can be dingy, grotty and sad, as well as intimidating for some women. Hence the safe space is needed.

B) Although, some are advertised as ‘for women’, others, like the Girl Geek Scotland events organised by my friend Morna Simpson, and others under that banner also allow men and other genders too. Sometimes they say the women can bring partners, which I always thought was nice :)

So, there is space for a variety, and yes, we need to change the structures and systems too so that we have a greater diversity for a brighter tomorrow.
