Global Carbon Emissions Rise as Countries Falter

In 2030, global greenhouse gas emissions could be anything within the range of 13–15 billion tonnes more than the level needed to keep global warming within 2 degrees Celsius said the emissions gap report launched by the United Nations Environment Program.

According to UNEP’s latest assessment report global peaking of emissions by 2020 is crucial for achieving the temperature targets of the Paris Agreement, but the scale and pace of current mitigation policies remain insufficient.

The number of countries that have peaked their GHG emissions or have pledged to do so in the future is not large enough to enable the world’s emissions to peak in the near term.

By 2030, up to 57 countries, will have peaked, if commitments made by countries are fulfilled. But will that be enough?
