Who Comforts You?
Some enlightened businesses are allowing employees to bring their pets to the office. The reasoning is that some folks, and their pets, get lonely when separated for long periods. Employers are finally waking up to the fact that, while the office environment needs to be professional, it does not need to be rigid.
An online professor and prolific writer wears fuzzy leopard slippers to work in her home office. Her birds hang out on the monitor, on the back of her chair, or somewhere on her. One of them attaches herself to my friend’s tee shirt, goes to sleep, and snores.
One of my felines likes to lie down beside the keyboard or on my arm while I (try to) work. The other one goes to sleep on a chair next to me (which is provided for that purpose). You may know of or be one of the moms who can nurse babies while they work or study.
When I raised hedgehogs, my little Agatha loved to wander around behind all the electronic equipment. She often came out covered in dust bunnies, testimony to my poor housekeeping skills. She offered occasional sweet distractions but did not interfere with productivity.
