Summer Run Series 2017
Finally! Just completed the Tier II state park summer run series! Four races between 5k and 10k. Although the weather this year prevented us from doing any 10k’s, I did finally run a 5 mile tonight! Under an hour! And I still had more left in the tank at the end! I maintained a 10–10.5 minute mile for all races despite knowing at the end of each I could have gone faster. I figure it’s a good pace and I will continue to try to get myself to 10min, possibly into the 9min range.

While running I discovered that it is challenging but a fun way to get outdoors. Seeing the ocean or the LI Sound, or watching incredible sunsets was an added bonus to the workout I got! I liked the 5 mile run and realize that my training and pacing was made for the 5 to 6 mile race. I still don’t have any real interest in running a half marathon but I would like to venture into a few more 10k’s before next summer! I prefer to run on cool days and am still trying to juggle getting up early enough with a toddler to fit in the training runs or do them after she goes to sleep at night. On that note, having her and my husband at the last race and seeing her smile as I crossed the finish line gave me more energy!
I’m so glad my friend Terri convinced me to do the series with her. I was able to get a few girl’s night dinners in after the races and having family there on the last run was a great way to end the summer runs! I can see why so many families bring BBQ set ups, chairs and coolers to all the runs. It’s an absolute fabulous excuse for having some beach or fun time with family and friends after work in the summer. And bonus with the endorphins coursing through ya to keep the mood light! On that note, goodnight!
