Don’t freak out, but the iPhone button doesn’t click anymore

The tl;dr version:
If you try to click the home button when the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, or 8 Plus is turned off, it doesn’t actually move. This is normal.

The long story: If you’ve got your hands on the shiny new iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, you’re going to notice a change.

The home button isn’t a regular button.

When you push down on the button, the ‘click’ sensation is actually generated by what’s called the ‘Taptic engine’ (that’s the same component that makes your iPhone vibrate).

If you look closely, the button doesn’t actually move (they did this to increase the water resistance. Moving buttons can let water inside).

So if your iPhone is turned off and you press the button, it won’t do anything. This is normal.
