I can see benefits in using a ride-share/car-share service, and I can see benefits in owning my own autonomous car. Both also have drawbacks much the same as the negatives now of relying on taxis for transport and of owning my own car.

I’m not sure I see the benefits of owning my own autonomous car, and allowing it to hire itself out during the day when it would otherwise be parked at work or at night when it would be parked at home. This model seems to bring out the negatives of both worlds. I can’t leave “my stuff” in the car if it’s hiring itself out to other people and there is the risk it will have ended up too far away when I suddenly decide I need it close (especially for an unexpected trip). Yet I still have to have a “home base” parking space and pay for registration, insurance, cleaning and maintenance.
