Can “the Math of Fluid” also explain the following observation?

You have two identical ice cube trays. You fill one up with cold water and the other with warm water. Put them both in a freezer at the same time. The tray containing the warm water freezes first.

This seems counterintuitive; there is no momentum in freezing, right? But if you try it, it will happen. So far, noone has been able to explain why this is the case.
