The arrival of my first laptop was a big event at the time, no longer did I have to sit at the desktop PC looking at a wall when surfing the world wide web.

Now I had the ability to sit with my family and still be anti social.

In my teens the thought of a device like a laptop was saved for films like ET, where electrical stuff was cobbled together so the extraterrestrial could phone home.

Maybe that’s where Word got the idea for their spell checker?

My laptop is rarely used these days, a bit like the desktop PC that’s still in the loft somewhere, instead I use my iPhone to conduct my virtual life, and to write silly articles like this one.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
