Don’t give up!

Nothing saddens and upsets me more than small business owners throwing in the towel.

The entrepreneurial journey isn’t easy. My 18 years as one has been quite the roller coaster ride.

Yesterday, when I stumbled across a post about someone wanting to ditch their CRM and marketing automation software because “nothing is working,” I reached out to see what they were having problems with.

I know how frustrating it is when technology doesn’t work, or I can’t figure out how to make it work the way I want it to.

But as tempting as throwing up my hands and saying, “Forget this!” may be at times, I’m SO glad I don’t give in.

And you shouldn’t either.

Often, an outside perspective or assistance is all that’s needed to get us calmed down and back on track.

StoryBrand founder Donald Miller spoke at yesterday’s Keap PartnerKon event. His business generated over $15 million dollars a year just prior to the pandemic. After the pandemic, StoryBrand now brings in $16.5 million dollars each year.

And do you know what he attributed part of that success to?

His use of his CRM and marketing automation software.

When he could no longer hold live, in-person events, which was the core of his business model, email marketing automations allowed him to quickly pivot and continue serving small business owners with his method of creating brand messaging that converts via virtual events.

Ryan Deiss of Digital Marketer just wrapped up his presentation 30 minutes ago. He shared his story of hopping from one CRM and marketing automation software to another as his business grew.

His exact words were, “They all sucked.” And now he’s back using the software he started with — as a multi-million dollar company.

Is it perfect? Definitely not.

Will there be problems, glitches, and outages? Yep (it’s technology)!

Will you want to pull your hair out, scream at someone, or punch the wall sometimes? We all do at some point.

But if I’ve learned anything these past 18 years as an entrepreneur and look at the example of highly successful business owners who once were just like me, it’s to not give up.

Stay the course, endure the trials, get help, and be scrappy. Success is just on the other side.
