Journalism Trend Blog Post
Since social media is growing more rapidly and most people get information from Facebook, Twitter etc., more news stations are leaning to put a lot more news on the internet. Social media and journalism has become important and based off the articles for “Journalist Resource” and “Teaching Social Media” here is way. Many newsroom mangers have been encouraging there team to start posting their work on social media sites and to connect more with the public. Many are also encouraged to chat with people to keep them updated on the current news. Most news management think that this will help to develop relationships with people and to lead them to news websites. According to “Journalist Resource” in the U.S., 63% of Facebook users said they get news there — up from 47% in 2013, according to the Pew Research Center. For Twitter users, 63% see that platform as a source of news. With the rise of social media and people using social media many colleges are encouraging journalism majors to post more news on social media and how to do it fast. Many people think with posting news on social media that the writing will lack, meaning that proper grammar will not be there. Even though social media is on the rise there are many concerns when connecting with other people. Some newsroom staff think that that some of the workers will disclose too much information or even give opinions. Many news staff have gotten in trouble for comments they posted.

These two stories were very interesting to read because it makes people wonder how social media will keep developing and if news staff should post or even comment on other people’s post dealing with the news. I think news staff should connect with other people and post news stories, but it should be a boundary and a respect for their job and the people. If news staff have a boundary meaning they should not post information that could get them fired and news staff should not post too much information. News staff and even journalist majors should learn how and what to post on social media that way they learn what to post and how to post so it won’t get them in trouble. Another thing that news companies can do is start their own Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages and have someone trustworthy to run their accounts. This will help to make sure that news staff don’t post anything hurtful, false or too much information. While it is ok to connect with people to share the news with them it is also important to show respect as well. Many news staff have said hurtful things to other people and the end result was the news person losing their job. If news people want to connect with people then kindness will take them a long way because if news people show support to their supporters than that will lead to more people watching and supporting there news channel and an increase in ratings.
