This video series is just what I need right now.

It’s been a storied year, to say the least. Being a part of the journalistic community at this point in history can be exciting, but mostly terrifying, as I witness the leader of the free country have a total disregard for press and the freedom of speech. There’s a point every day when my blood starts to boil and I need to tell myself to breathe, breathe, breathe.

And then there are times when something like this SoulPancake (Rainn Wilson’s media company dedicated to creating inspiring content)with Vitamix video crosses my screen and I actually smile, a rare occasion these days. That’s saying a lot, coming from this jaded man I have become.

The video is part of SoulPancake and Vitamix’s gratitude series, and this one features Kelis, recording artist (of ‘Milkshake’ fame. Yes, ‘my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard’ fame). Over the years she has made quite the name for herself in the culinary world. A graduate of the famed Le Cordon Bleu institute, Kelis’ love of food has led to her releasing a line her own line of sauces, hosting a series for the Cooking Channel called Saucy and Sweet, and releasing her first cookbook “My Life on a Plate”. And she’s currently in development on her own restaurant in Los Angeles.

In the video Kelis uses her love of cooking to thank her friends Hank and Charlie for all the joy they bring to the world helping children and would-be parents become families, done by cooking the duo a straight-from-the-heart meal. Hank and Charlie are owners of non-profit Adopt Together, a crowdfunding platform that helps families raise money to pay the heavy upfront costs of the adoption process.

I thank some higher power that there is still some sensibility and gratitude in this world. Whether it’s a SoulPancake and Vitamix video, or a Heineken ad, I will take it.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?
