How do you get people to follow and connect with you on Medium? Make yourself known to others — follow them, respond to their posts, highlight and recommend their articles, and write great stuff.

I’m starting to see this exact thing. Pieces I write in response to others gain more traction than standalone pieces. It seems like there’s a new format forming for me that’s effective: the “riff”.

I’m also experiencing increased followers and content engagement from people whose content I engage with through highlights, recommendations, and responses. It’s not exactly hockey stick audience growth, but it’s there.

I know that’s essentially just a restatement of what you said, but I thought it was worth providing some anecdotal evidence supporting your thesis. 😁
