How the Left got messed up and why it’s the Right’s fault.

For everyone who is passionate about politics there has to be a good side and a bad side. Each side blaming the other as ignorant and antagonistic. Obviously this is with the admittance that there are smaller factions outside the the two major parties that are prevalent in our country. Although these smaller parties don’t line up exactly with Republicans or Democrats it is reasonable to ascertain they share certain views that resemble a more conservative or liberal tendency. In our current social culture the word Republican is almost interchangeable with Conservative as is Democrat with Liberal. Granted hate groups and certain other groups on both sides don’t really share the values most Americans do. Regardless they still sometimes align on similar political beliefs. The Second Amendment or police reform are two good examples. The violent or destructive fringe groups on both sides put all of one group in a bad light to the other. Because we’re so polarized we like it.

How did it get this way? We Christians can take a lot of the credit. We’ve sat in our false piety condemning sins. Exactly what the Bible teaches us not to do. The group we have most liked to pick on (the gay and lesbian community) just so happened to become very politically oriented and passionate about their rights.

The party that seeks out the underdog soaked them up around the Carter era. For the most part they tried to stay under the radar until the late 60s.

Herein is the beginning of politics in America as we know it today. The Democratic Party has had to constantly reinvent itself because Americans get fed up when things are broken, figure things out and vote.

This commentary comes with the assumption the reader knows the Democratic Party is also the party that defended slavery, delayed the black man’s right to vote and enacted reprehensible segregation laws. That is a fact. Please research it before discrediting the writer and disengaging.

The Democratic Party became the predominant party of the black population during the Civil Rights movement in the 60s when the party needed them. Thus the necessity of championing civil rights by the Democratic Party was out of the necessity to continue its existence. Up to that point Democrats had been notoriously prejudiced. Research into American Presidential history will offer a bleak view of Democratic presidents pertaining to their inclinations towards racism. This was the case until JFK who opposed segregation. However he did little to address civil rights until the latter part of his administration.

In the late 60s this new propensity toward what was accepted as being more compassionate was picked up and carried by counter-culture of the time. (Consequently counter-culture has exploded into outright revolution today. )

This movement appealed to people that opposed the Vietnam War. The compassion angle paid off big and played well against a party that was painted warmongers, fanatics and alarmists.

Fast forward to the Carter administration. So now the gays that the Christians pissed off have since rightfully gained a voice and are all in Democrat. Certainly this is an overstatement but we all know it’s really not. Because that is the party of rights and equality it appeals to people who feel that they have been discriminated against.

Here’s what no one else will tell you. They were discriminated against. The entire country was prejudice in varying degrees and to a certain extent still is. White people see a black guy. Black people see a white guy. Men see women and vice versa. Everyone makes a visual assessment and develops an opinion. Beware of anyone who claims they don’t. However it is the people that allow the visual assessment to cloud their opinion after they get to know someone. Weather sexually, socially, economics based, disability wise or any other judgement that can be made by sight. It’s wrong to feel superior to any person and every person outside of Jesus, Gandhi or Mother Teresa has done it. I’m not even one hundred percent on the last two.

Back to the angry gay people. Of course they’re angry. They have been persecuted for generations and vehemently so by Christians. Because this is the exact opposite of what Christians are taught to do we develop a reputation. Hypocrites. As a matter of fact this is an understatement. Fundamental Christian principles are love one another and do not judge. Basically the entire premise of Christianity. Instead we judged and hated.

So 1970s Civil Rights, gay rights, anti-war supporters rebelling against the establishment and uniting. At this point it becomes a race to who is the most benevolent. The left decides who are these people that claim to be so good? We’re better people than they are because we don’t judge or condemn. Now it becomes the party for free thinking, free speech, liberty. These are great ideals but they are not exclusive to that party.

Because of the competition to be the most inclusive and the most accepting the envelope has been getting pushed and has gotten to a level that the right will never reach. Every time the right gets remotely progressive the left pushes the envelope again with something more outlandish.

However we’re not trying to compete over who the best people are. Consequently it was the Republican Party that was formed to put an end to slavery. The vast majority of the people on the right are not racist and are offended when we see racism.

This is a scary time for our country. Higher education is failing us. Now the left is in jeopardy of creating the backlash the right created for itself. Higher education is failing our society. In the groups push to prove liberals are better people many educators are ironically spreading their anti-hate message with hate. If we truly learn from history we would realize hypocrisy breeds contempt.

The place where my party and the ideology group we most align ourselves with failed was primarily in our condemnation of the gay community. That was wrong. Had we avoided that there would be a great deal less division than we are currently experiencing. Perhaps there would be no Democratic Party now and we could have focused on unity and race relations.

The place where the other party is beginning to fail is its effort to unite its party by further dividing the nation.

A common misconception is that we are a party that tolerates racism. My party is not racist nor has it ever been. It is inaccurate and unfortunate that it has been saddled with that reputation

The only solution is to be objective and alert. The truth however is that for those of us who are passionate about politics are only happy when we’re mad.
