I am a Product Manager

My Persona

I am a Product Manager. I am about 40 years old. I have two kids. I bike to work. I like to travel and spend time with my family outdoors. I have a Computer Science Degree and about 10 years of experience writing firmware and software. In addition to software development, I have worked in roles including solution consultant, engagement manager, and solution manager. I have a lot of experience working with customers to design solutions and managing teams to deliver those solutions. I am passionate about identifying and solving problems.

My Stories

  • As a Product Manager, I need to be able to spend time outside of the office, interacting with actual Customers, Evaluators and Prospects, so that I can identify and validate Market Problems that we should consider addressing.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to document Validated Market Problems and sometimes propose potential solutions so that the IT Team can evaluate our ability to cost effectively address these problems in a unique way.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to build and maintain a 12–24 month Product Roadmap that identifies the Market Problems we plan to address so that our Executive Team, and our Board of Directors understand how we plan to meet the strategic vision and the goals for our products.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to be able to collaborate with the IT Team on solution design and feature definition (including requirements and acceptance criteria) so that I can ensure that the features proposed will address the market problem(s) for the intended user(s).
  • As a Product Manager, I need to be able to collaborate with the IT Team to plan the scope and intended timeline of future releases so that I can ensure that we are increasing the value of our products by solving Valid Market Problems and investing in our strategic priorities as represented in our Product Roadmap.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to be able to prioritize features and bugs to be worked on so that I can ensure that the priorities of the business, based on actual market feedback, on our strategic vision and on other factors, are represented in the work that is performed.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to understand the capacity of the IT Team and the relative effort of prioritized features and bugs so that I can ensure that I am balancing my time outside of the office, my time maintaining the strategic roadmap, and my time collaborating on solution design and feature definition to ensure that the IT Team has what they need to be productive.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to be able to trust that the features and bugs that are worked by the IT Team align with the priorities of the business and the scope and timeline of the planned releases, or that I am consulted to the contrary, so that I can focus on my job.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to work with our Marketing Team to ensure that we can publicize and promote the new Market Problems we will be solving in future releases so that we can drive qualified leads to our Sales Team.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to work with our Sales Team to ensure that they understand the new Market Problems we are addressing and can efficiently leverage this work for increased sales and revenue.
  • As a Product Manager, I need to work with the Support Team to ensure that they understand and can support the new features we are developing to ensure that our customers are using the features to solve the problems/challenges that they have.
