I don’t think you’re under any obligation to get a not guilty verdict, especially if you believe your client is actually guilty. Defense attorneys, especially public defenders, are only obligated to ensure their clients get fair trials. I agree it can be wearing on someone to defend reprehensible people, but everyone accused of a crime has the right to a fair trial, no matter how heinous the crime.
