At the start, men may only be earning 3 or 5% more, but if they stick it out for 15–20 years without deviation, aggressively negotiate raises, switch jobs with a certain amount of recklessness, don’t take parental leave, and leverage their personal networks of similar men, that gap may widen to 20+% by middle age.
