Burberry is an English luxury fashion company, founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry in Basingstoke, England. Burberry is well known for fashion accessories, ready-to-wear outerwear, fragrances, eyewear, and cosmetics.

The first Burberry shop opened in London in 1891, with a collection of “outdoor” clothes. The Burberry check pattern is one of the world’s most copied trademarks. The iconic piece in the Burberry collection is the Burberry trench coat. Ronald Reagan, Humphrey Bogart, Peter Sellers, and Audrey Hepburn all were loyal devotees of the Burberry brand.

Founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry, the first major breakthrough for the company was its “gabardine” fabric, which was breathable but also water resistant. In 1914, Burberry was commissioned to produce an officer’s coat for WWI, producing the “trench coat”. The coat became very popular with consumers after the war, and soon after the iconic Burberry check was used to line the coat.

In the 1970’s, Burberry made deals to produce suits, trousers, accessories, and sportswear around the world. Burberry currently operates three brands: Burberry Prorsum, Burberry London, and Burberry Brit.
