Damn, Sis, you did it again! Even though remnants of my colonized mind had me feeling some kinda way about McCain’s death (sure it had to do with that whole, “serving in the Navy to be a part of something bigger than myself” thing I felt when I wore those gold bars long ago) — my now, pretty much decolonized mind knows well who he was, and how he operated within the duopoly. As you said, Democrats, Republicans, same thing, particularly when it comes to us Black folk.
I was living in South Florida when then Secretary of State, Katherine Harris halted the recount and certified the hanging chads theft of the 2000 presidential election. It was after that travesty that I left the Democrats for good and became an Independent. It was also the beginning of decolonizing my mind in earnest, doing my own research and paying close attention to what the hell was really going on.
And again, I so agree with you regarding white liberals choosing our heroes by criminalizing those like Assata Shakur and labeling them terrorists. When the Changeling and Brother Ass-coverer, Eric Holder (who’s now rumored to be contemplating a 2020 run for president) designated Assata a domestic terrorist a little over five years ago, I wrote:
Family, please stop being misled by the deus ex machina that is the Changeling. He and his cohorts would have you believe that theirs are the mighty shoulders upon which we stand — theirs are not, but hers are.
Today, I still vehemently believe that. Both of them have been and still are, perfectly “selected” tools of the White Supremacist Capitalist Patriarchy.
Lastly, it’s shameful and telling that John McCain fought vehemently against Civil Rights & MLK Holiday, yet Obama helped eulogize him instead of speaking at or attending the funeral of Aretha Franklin, a woman who helped MLK & Civil Rights…not to mention, showed up for Obama on several occasions.
Feels like you were sitting on my shoulder or something when you said the above, because I said the exact same thing about the Changeling as I watched “Al SharpTongue” (🤣🤣🤣) on that dais, reading a damned letter for him at Aretha’s funeral. Look, I get McCain requested that he be a part of all the eulogizing, but I’m sure he didn’t request Michelle. She, or at least one of the daughters could’ve shown the hell up for Aretha and acknowledged the part she played in all our Black lives. Instead, the first so-called Black president and his family chose to deliver a huge FU to her memory and our community by none of them showing up at all. {SMDH}
Keep writing, Sis. I promise you I’ll keep reading!
