The court in “Total War: THREE KINGDOMS” is a very badly explained part of the game. Let me try to explain this after a couple of days in with the game.

But hold on there for a sec! You do know what satisfaction is in Three Kingdoms, right? If you don’t then you should read this one first:

How to unlock the court

The court in Three Kingdoms is all about delegation and politics. Why run the whole business yourself when you have a bunch of staff that can do work for you?

The court consists of various positions. The various positions are unlocked as you gain prestige. You gain prestige by capturing settlements and upgrading them into larger cities. You need to advance to the level “Second marquis” to start using the court.

Upgrading cities gives you prestige…

What is the court?

The court is essentially the government or “legislative body” of your faction. Together they decide your missions, administer commanderies (provinces) and affect bonuses.

Why should you care about it?

Two reasons: satisfaction and bonuses. Well, if you appoint the right people to the right positions, you can get super cool bonuses that will “make your faction great again”! 😎

Also, by appointing the right people to the right positions you can make a lot of family members and generals satisfied. This is important because characters with low satisfaction can leave your faction. If they are administors they might take their commandery for themselves. Even worse, if they are ministers they might incite a civil war! 😱

Types of positions

There are three categories of positions:

🔴 People in power:

The people in power are the top rulers. They consist of you, the prime minister and your heir. They can only be family members so you might have to adopt. Together you have a strong impact on the faction wide bonuses.

🔵 Ministers (faction council):

The council members give you missions which, when completed, give you rewards (more income, population growth, etc…). When you complete the missions you also keep the ministers satisfied.

Ministers can be Chancellor, Grand Commandant, Grand Excellency, Grand Director and Grand Tutor. As far as I know, there is no practical difference between them other than their names. These positions are unlocked as you gain a higher title (faction rank).

🟢 Administrators:

The administrators govern your commanderies with unique effects and reduce corruption. Try to avoid characters with the “ambitious” trait as these usually desire independence if you appoint them to office.
