Gratitude moments (only the tiny ones)
This year I am trying to actively practice gratitude in my life. It indeed requires practice for me. I want to feel the calm that gratitude brings and I absolutely believe it is not the type of thing that lands without intension. A common recommendation is to keep a daily journal of gratitudes. I have such a blessed life that every time I try to think about what I’m grateful for, I find it hard to get past the enormously wonderful thing that is my little family or the entirely obvious things like home, health, etc. I feel my privilege shining just writing that.
While I AM absolutely grateful for those things, tonight I will intentionally push that aside and focus on the tiny things that hit me this weekend, in my little bubble:
- Living on an island. It’s one of those things I never imagined, and will love looking back on later in life.
- Small town summer festival.
- My first Seattle Summer. The summer here is beautiful and warm; not hot and not humid. Windows open in the evening. Bliss.
- When my 2 yo breaks out in crazy dance moves and in the moment decides (and announces) if he is doing hip-hop or ballet.
- Friends who trust me enough to move across the country largely based on my judgement.
- When my little boy asked to “be ‘scused from the table” because “that means it’s time to get as many hugs as I want to” and I am his target.
- Doing 5 loads of laundry in one day, without sacrificing time for play, and getting them all put away. Never happens. Miracle Sunday.
- Cherry Limeade Seltzer. If anyone finds out what’s really in “natural flavor” please do not tell me.
- Eating a snack under a shade tree in the grass with my boy.
- Being just a little bit sore from a good workout.
- Laughter. So. Much. Laughter.
It was a great weekend. And I am grateful.
