This article is wrong on so many levels it’s hard the even address them all and I won’t try to do so. But to pick out a few…
- It’s not “Fascism” to criticise the Press… that’s called “Freedom of Expression”. The Press is not supposed to be immune from criticism. Especially when they do engage in bias and get things wrong. The Press recently HAS been it’s own worst enemy by frankly doing such a c rappy and sloppy job at jounrnalism and by crossing the line (and obviously so) of journalistic ethics in an effort to “get Trump”. Many have clearly jumped over from even the pretense of objective journalism to out and out political activism.
- Bernstein obviously has a solid career as a journalist but in this particular instance he screwed up and he and CNN appear to be refusing to acknowledge that he screwed up. They used Lanny Davis as the anonymous main source for their article, not sure if they even bothered to try to corroborate his claims with anyone other party. Davis is not only obviously biased against Trump but has a history of being unreliable. Further still, Davis has publically retracted his claim admitting that the information he provided was misleading. The appropriate thing to do in this instance would be to retract the story or at least issue a correction acknowledging that one of the major sources has since recanted. Other media that ran the story have done so, so far CNN and Bernstein have so far refused to do that for some reason.
- On DeVos’s new policies toward sexual misconduct. They are not only justified and needed but long overdue. In our system of Justice, we respect both the rights of the accuser and the rights of the accused. We don’t simply assume the accused in guilty on the basis of an unsubstantiated accusations (because sometimes accusations are actually false) and we don’t punish the accused in advance of any evidence being presented to prove their guilt…. and we give the accused fair opportunity and due process to defend themselves against allegations. That’s not Fascism it’s the reverse of Fascism. A Hallmark of Fascism is to deny the accused those rights. The Dept of Educations sexual misconduct policy under the Obama Administration through all the rights and protections for the accused out the window. In essence, it presumed someone was guilty simply because they had been accused, did not require any evidence to be provided to support the accusation and in many cases didn’t allow the accused any opportunity to defend themselves against such accusations. It NEEDS to be overturned so that everyones rights are fairly protected.
secondly, there is little correlation that Fascism and gender inequality have anything to do with each other. That’s the one flavor of inequality that Fascism didn’t particularly favor or bolster. If anything, evidence, suggests that gender equality INCREASED in Fascist countries like Germany and Italy over what it had been before… and was higher in those countries then some of the democracies they were fighting. That’s not because such totalitarian regimes had any concerns for the rights of women, but because they wanted to maximally utilize all human resources in subservience to that state and some in those regimes reckognized that woman had utility outside the traditional roles.
If you want to see examples of this, look at the carrers of Leni Riefenstah and Hanna Reitsch.
