I spent my share of time alone before I got married. I don’t want to launch into a whole big personal spiel, because marriage isn’t really the subject of the original column. I don’t feel that I “settled,” but maybe others would disagree. [shrug]
It seems foolish to me to analyze feminism in terms of how marriage-worthy it makes women. That’s missing the point. I know a lot of single feminists making good lives for themselves without male companions. Who knows? Maybe some of them secretly envy me, but it’s tough to imagine. A partnership can be great, but it also requires a lot of compromise, and some women feel happier without that.
