That’s what I was wondering, as well. The truth is no woman in a sexist society makes her choice without considerable pressure from patriarchy, one way or another. I’m a stay-at-home (for now), so I’m not saying that to single out any particular woman.
But I totally support the concept of legal protections for all workers, and a strong social safety net as well. That’s the best way to assure something at least halfway like the fantasy of limitless choices we’re pitched as the norm in our society. (When in real life, it’s usually a pretty limited set of choices and all but a fortunate few just muddle through as best they can.)
