Carl Weathers, a multi-talented American actor, director, and former professional football linebacker, passed away on February 1, 2024, in Los Angeles, California. He was 76 years old at the time of his passing.

Carl Weathers’ career was marked by versatility, as he successfully transitioned between the worlds of sports and entertainment. Born on January 14, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Weathers initially pursued a career in football. He played college football at San Diego State University and later signed with the Oakland Raiders in the NFL. He also had a stint with the B.C. Lions in the Canadian Football League.

Despite his football aspirations, Weathers found his true calling in acting. He began working as an extra while still playing football and landed his first significant roles in blaxploitation films such as “Bucktown” and “Friday Foster.” His breakthrough came when he portrayed boxer Apollo Creed in the iconic “Rocky” film series, a role that defined his career and earned him a place in cinematic history. He reprised the role of Apollo Creed in several “Rocky” sequels.
