Las Vegas Teen Shooter Hangs Out of Car Window During Deadly Drive-by
A shocking incident in Las Vegas has brought attention to the dangers of gun violence in the community. Surveillance video obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators shows a teenager hanging out of a car window and shooting during a drive-by that resulted in the tragic death of Shawna McCowan, a 43-year-old mother.
The shooting took place on April 23, 2023, in the south valley while Shawna McCowan was walking dogs with a friend. According to police, the incident followed an earlier fight between two teenagers at a nearby apartment complex, where one accused the other of stealing his ghost gun. The gun used in the shooting was later found near the apartment building and matched to the incident.
Shawna McCowan, who split her time between Aurora, Colorado, where she worked as a teacher, and Las Vegas, where she worked for United Airlines, leaves behind a husband, son, and a large group of family and friends.
The shooter, identified as Kevin Perez-Stubbs, who was 15 at the time of his arrest, faces charges including murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Tyshean Tillman, 19, was identified as the driver during the incident, and two other individuals, Mezarius Finch, 17, and Johnathan Perez-Stubbs, 20, were also in the car at the time.
