Marxism in America? Could It Happen Here?

Where is the Occupy movement going? What are its goals?

The “Occupy Wall St.” Facebook page is trying to steer the righteous outrage of the American people into what they hope will be a Marxist revolution. It won’t happen.

We do have to have a revolution to reform our political system, but government control of the means of production is a nonstarter, because freedom is in the political DNA of Americans.

We’re a self-selected group in the experiment of trans-Atlantic migration. The number-one criterion in the process of selection between those who came to America and those who stayed in Europe was the quest for one kind of freedom or another. Our traits have been handed down, genetically and culturally, to this generation.

The Occupy movement should go back to appealing to all the downtrodden 99%. They should not keep trying to make it appear that the rightful goal of their virtuous crusade is to destroy capitalism. The real enemies of the American people are the plutocrats and oligarchs, who have destroyed the truly populist system of free enterprise in a market economy by subverting it.

Capitalism has to be protected by regulation or it won’t work. What we are seeing in present-day America is what happens when capitalism is not protected from those who would escape the self-correcting mechanism of free and open competition in the public marketplace.
