Sealcoating is the process of applying a mixture of liquid coating on tarmac or asphalt roads or pavements. Sealcoats are the liquids used in this process and are products from the crude oil. These liquids are then mixed up with other chemicals to make them ready for use. Sealcoating is done to prolong the life of the tarmac road or parking lot. A professionally done sealcoating can double or triple the life of the road. The tarmac or asphalt roads or pavement deteriorate as time goes by when they are exposed to water and the ultra violet rays of the sun. The ultra violet rays will gradually weaken the bitumen or the binder that is used to hold these asphalt concrete together. Thus sealcoating the road or the driveway will shield the tarmac roads from the ultra violet rays of the sun.

Sealcoating will also seal the cracks on the tarmac road which if left unsealed, they might allow water to penetrate and cause eroding on the base of the asphalt. The eroding will then lead to bigger cracks or potholes. Thus in this case the seal coat acts as a waterproof coating on the asphalt roads. Sealcoating also makes the roads to be smoother and more beautiful. This means that the costs of cleaning the roads is reduced since they can be swept and cleaned easily. The smooth surface after applying the seal coat also makes it easier to mark the roads. When applying the seal coat, it is good to follow the manufacturer’s instructions so that the process can be effective. The following are some of the tips to follow when applying a seal coat on your parking lot or driveway. The first you should do is to sweep clean the asphalt or the concrete ground. Checkout this sealcoating directory here!

The second tip is to make sure that you apply two layers of the seal coat. This is not only enough but also efficient. The third tip is to apply the seal coat only on the hot days, where temperatures are more than 60 degrees Fahrenheit. If is applied on the cold or rainy days then it will not be effective because it entirely depends on heat so as to function well. After applying it is also good to avoid the use of the road or parking for a minimum of twenty four hours. In case you do not want to do it yourself, there are many sealcoating contractors at this link who will do a professional job. The sealcoating equipment you use, also depends on the manufacturing company and also the type of job you intend to work on.
