I hope you already got time to check this previous post before starting on this one.

After all the inspections are conducted and you are confident to choose a solution. There are few more steps that help actualizing the proposed solution.

A-Preparing the floor

B-Treating and curing the floor

C-Installing the coating system

There are many steps involved to get your floor from left to right.

For step A) A thin or a thick membrane of the existing concrete floor is shaved off in order to; even the floor and remove buildups, get rid of all the debris and contaminations or old coatings. Usually Diamond Grinding, Shot Blasting, Scarifying process, or a combination of them is used to prepare the surface at this step.

A robust Diamond grinding machine can easily remove every particles from the floor till it gets to an even rough crust of the concrete floor. Shot blasting machine can be used for surfaces that are in a more healthy shape and condition but may require a modest resurfacing. For scarifying process, the machine uses a hammer like rotating blades to remove any old coating from the floor, or to make joint area of two adjacent slabs more level.

The step A is crucial for creating proper bonding between the coating solution and the concrete floor.

For step B) the bare surface of the concrete has to be cleaned, treated, and cured, ready for the final step. The dust that is produced from grinding or scarifying the concrete is much heavier that it may look. It generally looks like dust that you collect off a desk but in fact it is made of concrete. This dust tends to lay where it’s made. Fortunately industrial grade vacuums can be used to remove any grain of dust as soon as they are produced (in the step A). To guarantee a better outcome, the floor can be swept to collect any dust that may have been left by chance.

After finishing the cleaning and sweeping process, all the former cracks and holes have to be detected and fixed. The best way to treat cracks is to fill it with a right material that is flexible and yet strong enough to withstand the pressure of daily foot traffic. Please avoid using the same material as top coating for filling the big cracks and joints. Carefully prepared mix of special chemicals is needed at this step to provide a long lasting care for the foundation of the floor.

Step C) at this step, when the parts in both previous steps are done. It is time to apply a primer coat. The primer coat helps to fill up all the hols, pores, openings or hair cracks. This coat also helps lying down a strong skin on the floor for a better grasp of the topcoat.

The topcoat material can be different depending on the type of the usage clients have in mind for the floor. For most industrial purposes a topcoat of two-part solid epoxy and one protective urethane coat can promise many years of confidence in the flooring system.

Best of luck
