Cups Are Full

-Sean Anthony Lopez

Well, we were only eighteen years-old
We would not do as we were told
The Earth had just opened up
For once our cups were full

Our love began one summer afternoon
By the creek with friends and pleasant tunes
We wiled away our numbered days
Yes, the sun light never stays for long

And whispered in my ear sweet nothings
I'll whisper some to you
Promises made to be broken
Come, we'll make some more
We were only eighteen years-old
For once our cups were full

Come away with me my love
I won’t let go of these hands
Come away with me my love
I won’t let these moments go
Come away, yes, run away with me my love
Before the world comes to strike us down

Well, we were only eighteen years-old
Our hope had not been bought or sold
The Earth had just opened up
For once our cups were full

We couldn't see the other as the fool
As we raced for work, for home, for school
And life would have us broken-hearted
For not finishing what we had started long ago

And whispered in my ear sweet nothings
But I would not be fooled
Promises made to be broken
And broken them we have
We were only eighteen years-old
For once our cups were full

Come away with me my love
You let go of these hands
But, come away with me my love
These moments fade to dust
Come away, yes, run away with me my love
But at last the world had won
