I Am Going To A Sandwich Conference This Weekend
I pride myself on taking sandwiches a little too seriously. I have a theory that everything is some degree of sandwich. I’ve made t-shirts about sandwiches. I’ve traveled across the country to try sandwiches and plan on claiming a number of sandwich-related expenses on my 2016 tax return.
I think I take sandwiches pretty seriously. Or rather, I thought I did.
Then I met the ridiculous geniuses of Sandwich Club.

I first came across Sandwich Club last fall, as I was searching for other like-minded sandwich enthusiasts on Twitter. I came across @IsThisaSandwich, the Twitter feed of isthisasandwich.com, and struck up a conversation. We immediately connected over our shared desire to develop a unified theory of sandwiches, and a mutual passion for thinking far, far too much about food. Much to my chagrin, I discovered that I had just missed the Sandwich Club Summit by a couple of weeks.
I didn’t know much about the Sandwich Summit, but I knew damn well that I sure as hell wasn’t going to miss the next one. I signed up for the mailing list, set a reminder on my calendar, and waited.
For a year.
That twelve month wait pays off this weekend as I venture north to the hamlet of Wassaic, NY, where I will bear witness to a one-night sandwich symposium. I’ll hear panelists discuss how to turn sandwiches into pizza, why soup and sandwiches taste so good together, how we can use math to identify trends and patterns in popular sandwich consumption, how sandwiches exist in the fourth dimension, and much more. There is a choreopoem about “the mother of all sandwiches,” the vagina, and there will be a fashion show.
An actual NASA rocket scientist is going to examine the aeronautics of how sandwiches fly through the air.
So like I said, I thought I took sandwiches seriously. Then I found out about Sandwich Club.

I’ll be at the event Saturday evening and live-tweeting, snapping, and Instagramming the entire thing. Might even fit in a Periscope or two. Make sure to follow me for all the late-breaking, up to date sandwich news coming out of (as far as I know) the world’s premiere sandwich conference.
