The Boston Uprising pulled off a map 5 win over the New York Excelsior, Thursday night, 3–2.

New York was largely favored to win, not only as the Stage 1 and 2 finals winners, but also because of Jonathan “Dreamkazper” Sanchez’s removal from the Boston Uprising and the Overwatch League as a whole following allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor.

With Sanchez gone, “Mistakes” stepped into the star DPS role and gave an unbelievable performance against New York. Mistakes performed on Widowmaker at a level alongside Libero of the New York side, trading favorably and making a Volskaya Industries win swift at 2–1.

Boston dropped Numbani 1–2, however. What was surprising was after a strong capture from Boston on point A, New York was able to defensively hold before the second checkpoint, something pro teams normally cede. Numbani most often ends at the third checkpoint.

After half time, the teams traded map wins. New York won Ilios 2–0 with the substitution of Pine, who is well-known as a closer on this map specifically. However, Boston came back on Junkertown with a 3–2 win. It all came down to map 5, Oasis. New York was favored on control maps, so all hope seemed lost for Boston, but they must have had something to prove because they dominated New York and won the map uncontested at 2–0.

Boston is now second in the stage with 3 wins and no losses. New York is now ranked third with 2 wins to one loss. The teams run a map differential of +6 and +7 respectively.

Later in the night, the London Spitfire defeated the Florida Mayhem 3–0, having tied on the first map, Volskaya Industries. The Philadelphia Fusion defeated the Houston Outlaws 3–2 in another map 5 win.

Houston started off strong winning Volskaya Industries 4–3, but lost the next two maps. The two took Numbani into a tiebreaker round, finishing off Philadelphia 5 to Houston’s 4. Philadelphia become dominant in the third map, winning Ilios 2–0. Houston dominated in turn on Junkertown with a simple 1–0 win, but repeated their failures on control, losing Oasis 2–0, giving the series win to Philadelphia.
