Free speech

As an American, we are allowed to say anything we want without fear of persecution by the government. However, that doesn’t mean we are free to say whatever we want without repercussions. Many people are talking about the manifesto written by a (ex)Google engineer who talked about the ideal workspace environment and how some genders are better at others at doing certain tasks.

While I’m sure his intentions were good, his letter came off as sexist and discriminatory. Google swiftly fired the engineer and claimed that what he said was ‘not ok’.

Unethical people lie all the time. They are free to do so, and unless they’re swearing to tell the truth under oath, they aren’t committing any crimes. However, if there is proof that someone is lying and it causes you to be harmed in any way (emotionally or financially), you may have a case to sue them.

In general, don’t be a dick. If you think what you’re saying is wrong, it probably is. Society has inherent rules for you to follow to make the area a better place for all.

Looking forward to the future, the possibilities are endless.
