Pokemon Go Update
Last year, Pokemon Go took the world by storm. Thousands of people picked up the game and started walking around the streets catching Pocket Monsters and going to hotspots to get new supplies and experience. People were even creating side businesses like car transportation around the city to catch Pokemon or websites that showed their location. However, after a few weeks, the hype fizzled out and people started uninstalling the game. Why did it fail and how can they get back on top?
Ultimately, I felt that Pokemon Go wasn’t a great game. You collect Pokemon and then level them up by catching more of the same Pokemon. Experience points becomes negligible once you’re in the higher levels, so you quickly run out of resources. Finally, the most sinful thing was that they didn’t incorporate any player to player interactions in a Pokemon game! We expected to fight other players and trade Pokemon with our friends.
The product managers at Niantic had many opportunities to improve their game and from the looks at this next update, it looks like they’re taking a step in the right direction. With this new update, they are incorporating raids, where a super strong Pokemon will appear and up to 20 players will get a shot at taking it down. If they do, they get a chance to capture it. Pretty nifty feature!
In the end, they still don’t have a way to trade Pokemon or battle against your friends. The player to player interaction is what makes great games like Hearthstone, Clash Royale, and DOTA so fun to play. So I say this to the Product Managers at Niantic. Add these easy features to broaden your customer base and earn more money!
Looking forward to the future, the possibilities are endless.
