Product School Review part 2

The first day of any class goes as follows, the instructor introduces himself, then the students introduce themselves. The instructor goes over the course syllabus and makes sure all of us who are in the room are actually enrolled in the course. Nothing is different in product school, I felt like I was back in college, which was a good thing.

One of the key concepts that I learned during the first lecture was to think of a recruiter as your first customer, you are the product. How do you market the product (you) to the customer (the recruiter) so that they’ll do what you want (hire you!). Make yourself look like a star, take a deep look at yourself and think ‘what is your superpower?’ Everyone has one. If you don’t know what makes you unique, go ask your friend. They’ll give you honest advice.

Then look at your resume and LinkedIn profile. Do they reflect your superpower? Chances are, they don’t. Recruiters look at hundreds of resumes a day, if your superpower isn’t obvious, then you’re only hurting yourself.

Update your resume as if it was a product and think of the recruiter as a customer, you’ll have a better shot of getting your dream job.

Looking forward to the future, the possibilities are endless.
