Got Turned Down Because Of Health History?

If you are reading this, you probably tried to get life insurance but because of a medical condition (past or present), you could not get coverage.

Even though there are some companies out there that will not insure someone with serious medical conditions, there are some very well known companies that will. It is not in your interest to give up on getting life insurance just because one or two companies turned you down.

My Friend With Diabetes

I have a good friend who is a diabetic and is on insulin. He was diagnosed as an adult. Due to this, he has been turned down for life insurance a few times. Since I’m a life insurance agent, he asked me to help him find coverage. Within a few minutes, I was able to find him a company that would cover him and all of his children. Before then he had given up on life insurance just based off the fact that two or three companies had turned him down.

What Are The Possible Stipulations?

Some of the companies that insure you will base their decision on how long you have had the condition, how and when it was treated, what type of medication you take, or the last time the condition affected you in an adverse way. It really depends on the company and their treatment of your specific medical issue. The amount of coverage they are willing to give you may also start off lower in the beginning but after two years, they may give you more insurance protection.

Should I Lie About My Medical Condition?

Absolutely not. If you are not truthful in the application and something happens to you, the insurance company will not pay your claim. In many cases, they will just return the premiums that you have paid if it is discovered you withheld information. So, it is always best to be truthful about your health conditions.

Health Conditions That May Be Insurable

The list below are some conditions (there are more) that may be insurable. Any of these may require a few years to have passed since you last were required or advised to receive treatment, but the ones in bold are most likely to require some time to have passed since your last treatment.

Diabetes | Hepatitis B| Hepatitis C | Chronic Lung Disease/COPD
Chronic Bronchitis | Emphysema | Cancer | Leukemia | Melanoma
Chronic Kidney Disease | Lupus | Bipolar Depression
Parkinson’s Disease | Multiple Sclerosis | Coronary Artery Disease
Heart Attack | Bypass Surgery | Stroke | Alcoholism | Drug Abuse Muscular Dystrophy | Seizures | Cirrhosis

Your chances are better to get covered if you have only suffered from one of these conditions. There is still a chance to get life insurance in some cases if you suffer from more than one. But the less conditions you have and the longer it has been since the condition has been a threat, the better.
