What really matters

Today, I don’t know if I have the ability to write five-hundred words for my challenge, but I do have some thoughts.

What do you do when you don’t feel like doing anything? Lately, I have been having a hard time feeling motivated to do much. I have a lot of passion projects I wish to work on, but honestly I feel like it is pointless. In a few months I’ll have to put all of that on hold to do school work. But maybe that isn’t such a bad thing. When something is important right now, it seems urgent and begins to eat away at you. When something is important today and tomorrow it begins to have value. When something is important today and a year or two down the road, it begins to have significance. When something is important for years past and years to come, it becomes a part of you.

Procrastination is the destroyer of all success, but I think jumping right into things is destroyer of lasting success. I am not sure if I need to plow through this feeling and get something done or ride it out and enjoy the time I have now.

Why is it that we feel guilty for not taking action? Is it because everyone expects us to or we feel a personal pressure to achieve something because we think it will make us happy? I am not sure. I do think that there are some things that we can do on a daily basis that may not guarantee any kind of success, but at least fulfillment. For example, I always feel really good after writing these 500 word posts. Even though, some days it feels like a chore and a struggle, I always find myself happy and full of life. I feel proud of myself. Whenever I go to Kung Fu after a long day and I just want to go home, I feel alive and excited to see my family.

Goals are important, because they offer a direction to move forward. However, I think that experiences are just as if not more important than goals. The things that matter most (i.e family and spirituality), don’t have metrics. You cannot measure how much love you give someone or how close you feel to your God or higher power. These are things that we just experience.

Perhaps I am speaking out of my personal frustration with myself or it is come through me to let everyone know that your life is okay. You don’t need to everything right now.

What do you think? I would appreciate your thoughts? Am I being ridiculous or are these thoughts true? Please comment and let me know.
