Divided House of Reps. Approves Impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump

A divided House of Representatives voted in a historic action to endorse the Democratic-led impeachment inquiry into President Trump. The vote was 232 to 196 to approve a resolution that sets out rules for an impeachment process. This is only the third time in modern history that the House had taken a vote on an impeachment inquiry into a sitting president.
Democrats achieved this resolution over unanimous Republican opposition with only two of their members voting no. The tally warns the battle to come as Democrats take their case against the president public and this sends both parties into uncharted territory and shakes the nation’s political landscape.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi read from the preamble of the Constitution with a picture of the American flag by her side and declared assertively “What is at stake in all of this is nothing less than our democracy.” Ms. Pelosi who resisted impeachment for months said this week that she has found the evidence against Trump convincing. However she said, there has been no final decision on impeachment. “We’ve had enough for a very long time,” Pelosi said Monday at a roundtable with columnists stating that the House investigators would pursue additional corroboration of witness accounts.

Minutes after the vote Stephanie Grisham, the White House press secretary denounced what she described as “a sham impeachment” and “a blatantly partisan attempt to destroy the president.” She also said “The president has done nothing wrong and the Democrats know it.” Later Mr. Trump weighed in on Twitter stating “The Greatest Witch Hunt In American History!”
This is such an important time in our democracy. Our constution and basic belifes are being tested. This is the 3rd impeachment inquiry on a sitting president in US history and it could very well reshape the political landscape if successful and will very well have an effect on the 2020 presidential election. The stakes are extremely high and if in the event that president trumps vice president Mike Pence was a co-conspirator to the allegations against trump this may very well lead to a pelosi presidency as she is the head of the house of representatives. Our democracy is being tested and it’s extremely important to follow and see where this leads.
