Product School Review part 1
Today marks the first day that I start product school to learn more about the product manager role. Product management is one of the hottest roles in the Bay Area, yet, there is no defined major in school. People are having a difficult time transitioning into the role because every company does it a little differently, there is no set track. My hope is that I’ll be able to talk to like minded individuals and work with my peers to learn the product management mindset and eventually land my first official role as a product manager.
For the past few months, I’ve been taking online courses on the subject and attending Product School’s free seminars on Wednesdays to hear ideas from current product managers.
Product School offers an 8 week ‘Bootcamp’ that will quickly spin up students to the product manager role. We will be connected with a current product manager who will teach us how to do the job and how to get the role. Of course, at the end of the day, it will be up to the individual to do the work and apply the concepts learned in the course. There are no guarantees in getting a job as a PM once you complete this course. I will be periodically posting my experiences with the group, but I’m incredibly excited to be taking this first step.
Looking forward to the future, the possibilities are endless.
