I too was under the impression that the Monkees were manufactured like the Partridge Family. Their beginnings definitely were pre fab, but what the producers didn’t know was they were creating a self determined monster, that those in the musical industry very much respected. If you read “Canyon of Dreams,” aside from (Mama) Cass Elliott’s house, Peter Tork’s digs was the creative home/refuge for artists from Keith Richards to David Crosby. Also, many don’t realize that Mickey “Monkey Man ” Dolenz was one of the very few people that has access to Studio 2 of Abbey Road during The Beatles recording of Sgt. Pepper.
