And looking over the NYTimes bestseller list as well as Literary Digest, I would say you’re hopelessly out of touch with what’s being published today. If anything, these kind of real-life stories, especially if they tell of minorities in America, are very hot right now, and only a few of them would be considered “happy”. I suppose you could say their endings sorta are, but given everything they endure to the final page…
