This is where I throw my hands up in despair at what “cultural critique” has become. If you havent figured out by now why a show that is essentially DYNASTY with a Lot of Big Fur Costumes should be the hit that it is, then there truly is no hope.
And as for your yearning for scenes of a normal family having a normal Sunday dinner and talking about their normal lives… truly, you’re watching the wrong series. That is not what GoT is about, nor should it be, for the same reason that DYNASTY never talked about the lives of the upstairs maids or the second-string chauffeurs. In all the years that KING OF QUEENS or HOME IMPROVEMENT ran, how many scenes outside of Lower-to-Middle Class America did you get? Any involving the home lives of the characters’ bosses, with detailed sit-down conversations?
Seriously, if you cannot understand how utterly ridiculous your thesis is here, then perhaps it’s time to gently reconsider your long-term career arc.
